The new levy aims to boost government revenue, discourage excessive imports, and promote local automobile manufacturing by introducing a structured taxation regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"943\">According to the official notification, <strong data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"631\">vehicles with engine capacity of less than 1300 cubic centimeters (cc)<\/strong> will be subject to <strong data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"677\">a 1% ad valorem charge<\/strong>. For <strong data-start=\"683\" data-end=\"729\">locally assembled or manufactured vehicles<\/strong>, this charge will be calculated on the <strong data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"816\">invoice price inclusive of duties and taxes<\/strong>. In the case of <strong data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"854\">imported vehicles<\/strong>, the same 1% will apply to the <strong data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"904\">assessed value<\/strong>, which also includes duties and taxes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"1243\">For vehicles falling in the <strong data-start=\"973\" data-end=\"993\">1300cc to 1800cc<\/strong> engine capacity range, the government has imposed a <strong data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1070\">2% ad valorem charge<\/strong>. This will be applicable to the <strong data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1151\">invoice price for locally manufactured units<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"1161\" data-end=\"1201\">assessed value for imported vehicles<\/strong>, again inclusive of all duties and taxes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1245\" data-end=\"1606\">The <strong data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1265\">highest slab<\/strong> applies to <strong data-start=\"1277\" data-end=\"1327\">vehicles with engine capacity exceeding 1800cc<\/strong>, where a <strong data-start=\"1337\" data-end=\"1361\">3% ad valorem charge<\/strong> will be levied. Similar to other categories, <strong data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1430\">local manufacturers<\/strong> will calculate this charge on the <strong data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1482\">invoice price<\/strong>, while <strong data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1503\">importers<\/strong> will be liable to pay it on the <strong data-start=\"1536\" data-end=\"1554\">assessed value<\/strong>, both of which include applicable duties and taxes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1608\" data-end=\"1952\">The new charge structure also extends to <strong data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1669\">buses and trucks<\/strong> equipped with internal combustion engines. <strong data-start=\"1713\" data-end=\"1767\">Locally assembled or manufactured buses and trucks<\/strong> will be charged at <strong data-start=\"1787\" data-end=\"1844\">1% of the invoice price inclusive of duties and taxes<\/strong>, whereas <strong data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1883\">imported buses and trucks<\/strong> will attract <strong data-start=\"1897\" data-end=\"1925\">1% on the assessed value<\/strong> under the same conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1954\" data-end=\"2283\">This wide-ranging levy reflects the government\u2019s intent to streamline tax collection in the automotive sector while offering a degree of protection to the domestic industry. Economists believe the measure may lead to a marginal increase in vehicle prices, particularly for imported cars, while also encouraging local production.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2285\" data-end=\"2620\">Industry responses have been mixed: local manufacturers have largely welcomed the move, terming it a step towards fair competition and industrial growth.
