
Karachi: In compliance with the Government of Pakistan’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, the Enforcement Collectorate of Pakistan Customs Karachi continues its vigorous operations against narcotics trafficking and illegal trade. Collector Customs Enforcement Karachi, Moinuddin Ahmed Wani, received confidential intelligence regarding a potential attempt to smuggle the prohibited narcotic substance Marijuana (Weed) from Balochistan to Karachi via passenger bus. Acting swiftly, the Collector directed Additional Collector of Anti-Smuggling Squad (ASO), Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, to take immediate preventive measures. Following his directions, strict surveillance orders were issued to the customs staff deployed at the Moochak Check Post on RCD Highway for inspection of all buses and coaches arriving from Balochistan. Under the supervision of Assistant Collector ASO, Ms. Basma Jatoi, comprehensive checking was carried out, resulting in the interception of a passenger bus bearing registration number BTA-988 that had arrived from Balochistan. During thorough inspection of passenger luggage, 13 plastic boxes containing Marijuana (Weed) were discovered hidden between packets of dates and chips. The total weight of the recovered narcotics was 3.16 kilograms with an estimated market value of PKR 6 million. The contraband was found in the possession of a passenger named Arif, who was immediately taken into custody. The seized drugs were confiscated by the Customs staff, and a formal case was registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Customs and Narcotics Acts. The arrested suspect has been presented before the competent court and remanded into custody for further investigation. Pakistan Customs remains fully committed to eradicating the smuggling of narcotics and contraband from the country, and the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has reaffirmed its resolve to continue such decisive and coordinated actions with utmost diligence and determination.
