KARACHI: Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) has unveiled a series of technological and operational initiatives aimed at enhancing port efficiency, strengthening security mechanisms, and improving customer experience, as part of its broader strategy to modernize terminal operations and facilitate trade.
According to details KICT has successfully implemented a mandatory biometric verification system for all drivers entering the terminal, achieving 100% registration. The initiative is intended to enhance security controls, ensure traceability of terminal access, and improve compliance with safety protocols. Industry observers view the move as a significant step towards digitizing gate operations and reducing unauthorized access to port facilities.
In another major development, KICT has introduced an integrated online invoice generation and digital payment system for its customers. The terminal has also undertaken measures to optimize yard utilization amid increasing cargo volumes. Working in close coordination with Pakistan Customs, KICT has shifted long-idling containers to customs-bonded off-dock facilities, freeing valuable yard space for active cargo operations. The move is aimed at improving container flow, reducing congestion and ensuring smoother cargo handling within the terminal.
